Area Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the attack made him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
